--------- What's the world coming to when authors don't write the truth?
Jennifer Sky Band, for the Stuart News
Monday, October 5, 2009
---Recently I was asked to participate on a writing panel; the subject was biographies and memoirs. My immediate instinct was to feel underqualified, I was nervous about getting up and being an authority on something I have yet to be fully part of: My memoir, while finished, is in the very, very, slow hands of the publishing world and is yet to be published.
---After thinking on it for a week I realized that the eight years of studying, writing, finishing a book and getting an agent probably did mean I might have some kind of educated information to offer.

--Real rocker or faker? Who cares, art is key to life, giving us fun and love
Jennifer Sky Band, for the Stuart News
Monday, July 27, 2009
---HOLLYWOOD, Calif. You never know who or what you may see along Hollywood Boulevard in never-never land.
---One Saturday my then-husband, Alex, and I decided to escape life for a few hours and head over to Manns Chinese Theater for a movie. Alex accidentally took a wrong turn and instead of going down the street with the secret parking entrance, he deposited us into the chaos that is Hollywood Boulevard on a summer weekend.
---It was a beautiful day in the City of Angels; the sun was shining in a cloudless sky, our windows were down and a soft, mid-70s breeze was drifting past, but all I noticed were the hordes of out-of-towners slowly oh so slowly crossing the street, until Alex looked over at me with mild surprise, then softly exclaimed, Alice Cooper.
---I followed his gaze out my passenger side window and there, in broad daylight, was Alice Cooper the upper half of his torso sticking out of a white 1980s-style limo!

----------------------You can take a rocker out of a gas-guzzler, but ...
Jennifer Sky Band, for the Stuart News
Monday, June 22, 2009
---A few years ago, Alex, (my ex) and I bought a Prius: part electric, part gas, part humanitarian disaster relief.
---Over the previous six years, Alex, a car guy (vomit), owned a string of other vehicles that included two Ducati motorcycles, a tiny two-door BMW (mine), a Lotus, a Lamborghini, a MINI Cooper and one no, make that two, Ferraris.
---The excess! The waste! The sheer manliness, or mankindliness, or unkindliness, of it all!
---A shiny car doesnt impress this girl.

---------------------------My personal audience with the King of Pop
Jennifer Sky Band, for the Stuart News
Tuesday, May 26, 2009
---Once upon a time, I attended the most unlikely of birthday parties, or highly likely, depending on which dimension of reality you believe in.
---My husband and I arrived at Londons Heathrow airport, after the long flight from Los Angeles, and were met by a mysterious driver. I think he was speaking English, but neither of us could understand a word. Good thing I do understand the universal language of gesture we were to get into his car! After hours of riding, destination unknown, we arrived at an elegant estate deep in the English countryside.
---Two days later, I was seated next to Michael Jackson, actually rubbing his leg! Do read on.

-------No happy trails on this liberals visit to the St. Lucie County rodeo
Jennifer Sky Band, guest columnist for the StuartNews
Monday, May 4, 2009
---I had never been to a rodeo, so when a friend who is involved in the circuit invited me to join her, I was excited. I grew up on the beach, but my best friend lived in Indiantown and had horses. I like horses, I like horsy people.
---As I pulled into the St. Lucie County fairgrounds, anticipation grew. Immediately images of the rodeo scene in the movie Borat came to mind, and I hoped to dispel my unfortunate idea of ignorance and misplaced patriotism.
---I would be disappointed.

----------------------Jennifer Sky Band: Models are dumb ... or are we?
Jennifer Sky Band, guest columnist for the Stuart News
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
I was a teenage model.
Yes, I know those words come with a bit of a stigma, that models are uneducated, vapid things, just good to look at. And that is partly right, in my case, anyway.
At the ridiculously young age of 16, I forwent a classic public school education and moved out into the world abroad, to work and learn. As a model, I learned about culture, self-reliance and preservation, instinct, morals, and plain common sense. All things that cant really be taught in the institutions we call high school. Yet, I consider myself to be uneducated, and feel a sense of embarrassment that I never went to college.
